Eggs: Unknown: I have tried this egg, but cannot get it to work, so I assume this rumor is false. From disc 1, stop the disc and choose 3 on your remote.
Factoids: 1. The "Clerks" logo is made out of letters cut from various magazines and food items. The C is from Cosmopolitan Magazine, the L is from Life, the E is from Rolling Stone, the R is from Ruffles potato chips, the K is from Clark Bar and the S is from a Goobers box. 2. Clerks is loosely based on "The Divine Comedy" by Dante Alighieri hence the name. Also, there are nine breaks in the movie to represent the nine rings of hell. 3. The VHS cassette of this film is the most stolen video tape in video stores across the USA. 4. Grace Smith who plays the "Milk Maid" in the movie, is Kevin Smith's mother. 5. While standing outside the video store, Jay exclaims, "I'll f**k anything that moves!" This is a reference to the same line that is said by Dennis Hopper's character in Blue Velvet. 6. After Randal is introduced and is walking back to the video store, he turns to a pedestrian and says, "Dr. Jones, no time for love!" This line was taken from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. 7. The character Caitlin Ryan was named after the same character in the TV show, Degrassi Junior High, one of Kevin Smith's favorite TV shows when we worked at the Quick Stop in his hometown. Caitlin Ryan was his favorite character on the show. 8. The "RST" in RST Video stands "Rajiv, Sarla, Tarlochen." Those are the first names of the son, mother, and father team who owned (and still own) the video store and the Quick Stop. (IMDB, Moviemistakes)
Comments: Rating B+. (Unknown, Own) I fell in the cult movie status of this flick around the early Dogma days, and I still enjoy it. The only other possible element I could think of for this package to be topped off would have ben the Clerks Original Unaired TV Pilot. But that wasn't Smith's project, and it sounds like it was pretty bad and may never be bundled in. A die hard fan should find a nice bit of fun by selecting to view the annimated lost scene within the movie on the first disc with the popup facts option on, or even just watching the video commentary only on disc two. There aren't any eggs (which were flat out fun on Dogma, and An Evening with Kevin Smith...Mallrats 10th Anniversary's were so-so), but the release is full of extras. I myself felt my first overload of too much material, and I still love it. I wish they included the animated lost scene as an option to watch on the extended version...but I understand the First version probably wouldn't have included that anyway.
Differences: The only differences I saw was that in the original DVD release, the deleted scenes section (including the Alternate ending) and music video have introductions. The music video introduction is completely changes and the deleted scenes introductions were dropped in the X release. However, those old introductions do not add anything at all, so they aren't really missed. I went as far as to check and see if the seven deleted/extended scenes available on the first DVD release were included on the Disc 2 Original Cut, and they were, with exact timing and complete with the Kevin Smith smoke ending. S, toss out the old version and grab the new one.
