Factoids, Extras & Eggs:
1. Released barely four months after Beck’s 1994 debut Mellow Gold, the minimalist mutant folk collection One Foot in the Grave was a curveball that temporarily threw casual “Loser” fans off Beck’s scent while presaging myriad musical adventures to come in the form of 1996’s multi-platinum breakthrough Odelay. Sessions began in the fall of 1993, a few months into the existence of Calvin’s Olympia, Wa basement studio on a reel to reel 8 track. Musicians from local bands such as Built to Spill, Spinanes and Love As Laughter made appearances backing up Beck on half of the original album’s 16 tracks. (Paper Tiger)
2. Fresh Meat & Old Slabs: Track 8 "Fume" is available on a Loser Single. Track 20 "Totally Confused" was released on the Beercan Single. Track 21 "Trouble All My Days" is available on the Pay No Mind Single. Track 12 is on Golden Feelings as track 8. Track 3 is available on Stereopathetic Soulmanure as track 16. Track 5 is available on Stereopathetic Soulmanure as track 22.
3. Beck had this to say about Fresh Meat & Old Slabs, "Yeah, that's (Fresh Meat & Old Slabs) something I made for my Mom - actually for her birthday, I think. I made it because she opened up a cafe and she wanted some of my music to play in the cafe. So I put together some of the different songs off the different tapes I'd made." The album was recorded on 4-track and circulated amongst Hansen family members. Wider circulation to a larger audience happened through Bittorent. None
