Factoids: (
IMDB, Mistakes, BondMovies, Wiki) Mi6
1. First James Bond movie to be released with the MGM Lion logo at the beginning. MGM merged with United Artists in 1982, the year before the release of Octopussy and this is the first Bond movie distributed by the new company, MGM/UA Distribution Co.
2. Footage of Roger Moore and Kristina Wayborn in bed shown in one of the film's trailers is not included in the film itself.
3. The crocodile water vessel that James Bond travels in is a reference / homage to the diving suit with a pigeon-on-the-head sequence from Goldfinger (1964).
4. The Fabergé Egg as seen in the movie was actually the Imperial Coronation Egg designed by Peter Carl Fabergé. It was made 1897 to commemorate the 1894 Coronation of Czar Nicholas II. The jeweled egg contains a model of a Coronation Coach; a guilloché field of starbursts with a translucent lime yellow enameling on the exterior surface; trellised greenish gold laurel leave bands have mounted at each intersection point an opaque black enamelled Imperial gold double-headed eagle with a rose diamond on their chest; on the top is a large portrait diamond with a cluster of ten smaller diamonds; and a smaller portrait diamond is set within a cluster of rose diamonds at the reverse end. Almost twenty years later the egg would re-appear in the movie Ocean's Twelve (2004). The Faberge egg auction sequence was in the Ian Fleming short story, "Property of a Lady."
5. It is said that Karl-Marx-Stadt is east of Berlin. Karl-Marx-Stadt was the name of the city of Chemnitz between 1953 and 1990, which is situated slightly south-west of Berlin.
6. A shot of a sign which says "National Art Repository" in both English and Russian has the Russian word for "art" misspelled: the fourth letter should be the Russian "u" not the Russian "ch." The two letters do look alike, which suggests that the text was likely copied out of a dictionary erroneously.
7. The name of Miss Moneypenny's assistant, Penelope Smallbone, was the real name of one of the performers in the title sequence of "The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977).
8. In the scene where Kamel Kahn is playing the dice game in the casino, it is a tribute to "Goldfinger" (1964). Kahn is cheating and is thrashing his opponent, who says "Your luck has to run out sometime," just like when Goldfinger is cheating at cards. Also Bond takes over, and beats Kahn at his own game by using the "lucky" dice, like when Bond wins the golf game with Goldfinger. When Bond wins, Kahn's henchman crushes the dice in anger, like Oddjob who crushes the golfball.
9. During one of the chases, when James Bond hops into the water, he is picked up by a group of American tourists on a tour boat. The city of Cincinnati is misspelled as Cincinatti on it.
10. A magazine format comic book adaptation of Octopussy was produced in 1983 by Marvel Comics.
